UNDERSTANDING OUR SALVATION - 3

UNDERSTANDING OUR SALVATION - 3

An important list has been arranged by B.W. Barber.  There are more terms of pardon than are expressed in any single passage, but there can never be fewer”.  Following is the list.  (Additional added by MLB)

WE ARE SAVED BY:

  • Jesus - Matt 1:21
21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will                                   save his         people from their sins."
(As a Jew, Joseph looked forward to the coming Messiah.  How his heart must have                                            leaped. MLB)
  • Ourselves - Acts 2:40
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves                                       from this corrupt generation."
(Our choice.  We have to act upon it.MLB)
  • Mercy - Titus 3:5
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He                                   saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
(2 Cor.5:21  God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might                                           become the righteousness of God.MLB)
  • Works - James 2:24
You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
(Eph 2:10  For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,                                       which God prepared in advance for us to do MLB)
  • Grace - Eph 2:8
                        For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is  the gift                                                 of God;
(Rom 3:23  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,  We may think we are
a “good person”.  1 John 1:8  If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the                                                 truth is not in us  MLB)

  • Preaching -1 Cor 1:21
For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God,                               God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who                        believe
(Rom 10:14  How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can                                 they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without                                      someone preaching to them? MLB)
  • Gospel - 1 Cor 15:1-2
Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you,                                                             which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are                                                       saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you                                                                      believed in vain.
(2 Thess 2:14  He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory                              of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Called by gospel  MLB)
  • Blood - Rev 1:5
and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the                                   kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood
  • Faith - Acts 16:31
They said, " Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."
  • Repentance - 2 Cor 7:10
For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret,                              leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
  • Confession - Rom 10:10
for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he                                     confesses, resulting in salvation.
(Matt 10:32-33   "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him                                     before my Father in heaven. MLB)
  • Baptism - 1 Peter 3:21
Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you —  not the removal of dirt from the flesh,                                   but an appeal to God for a good conscience — through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

No sinner’s prayer is found in the Bible.  Sprinkling was established as a form of baptism in 1311 A.D.  This was long after the N.T. church was established.  Infant baptism was inaugurated in 400 A.D. as was “salvation by faith only” and “once saved, always saved”
These were from men’s idea, not Bible.

Faith comes first and is absolutely essential.  With faith comes repentance and confession.  It is similar to a marriage.  A couple become friends; fall in love; become engaged.  They are not man and wife yet.  The culmination is when they are pronounced man and wife.  The culmination in becoming a Christian is immersion.  It has taken it all.

It is very important that we don’t add or take away from the Scripture with man-made ideas, justifications, or excuses.
Deut 4:2  Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands                 of the LORD your God that I give you.
Deut 12:32  See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.
Rev 22:18-19  I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds   anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19 And if anyone takes            words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life           and in the holy city, which are described in this book
.
Conversion is only the beginning of our new life in Christ.
            Colossians  3:17
Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through      Him to God the Father.
                1 Cointhians 10:31
Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

We must continue to follow Christ and be faithful until the end.
            Rev 2:10
…Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

May you be guided to make a godly choice to follow the One who died for you.
